When deciding on a new weight lifting programs, it is important that you ensure that it will get you to where you want to go. There are countless weight lifting programs out there, and each one has a different goal in mind.
What are you looking for? Do you want to build muscle, do you want to increase your strength, are you interested in building up endurance, or explosive strength. Once you analyse what you want to get from each routine, it makes choosing so much easier.
Weight lifting programs are not all created equally. It is very important that you develop the skill to identify which one will get you where you want to go, and which wont.
Weight lifting programs are maps that show you how to get somewhere. Choosing methods that are designed to train a strength attribute that you are not interested in developing is like following a map that leads to a destination the opposite to where you wish to go.
Once you have analysed your list of potential weight lifting programs, have chosen the one you wish to use, you have to stick with it for sufficient time to get to your goals. Too many people chop and change their workout on a near weekly basis. If you do this, you have no way to track your progress, or see if you are getting where you wish to go.
Workout routines need to be stuck with for at least 8 weeks. This will give you sufficient feed back to see whether you are developing how you wish, or whether you should choose a new routine. If you are seeing decent progress, then have a quick week rest, and continue adding weights to your lift again, if you are not, after the same week rest, chose another program to focus on for the next 2 months.
Once you sift through the weight lifting program lifting programs that work for you, and which don't you can stick to yours for as long as you wish. As long as you are always adding more weight, or adding additional reps, you are making progress. There is no requirement to "keep your body" guessing by constantly changing what you are doing, your body doesn't know if you are pressing or pulling, only that the resistance is getting harder. It responds to this increased resistance by building muscle and building strength.
